ShineOn! Spring Conferences

Spring 2023

It is with great pleasure and excitement that we announce our 2023 annual overnight conference for 3rd-5th grade girls will be bringing us back to our roots at SUNY Plattsburgh!

Break the Mold: Be Brave, Be Bold will be held on March 4th 8:00 AM-March 5th 10:00 AM, 2023 at SUNY Plattsburgh’s Memorial Hall.  Please note that due to construction in Memorial Hall, this is significantly earlier than normal years.

Registration will open on Saturday, February 4 at 10 a.m. on our website, www.shineongirl.org.  It is first-come, first-serve and will fill up quickly.  There are only a total of 150 spots available due to reduced space from Memorial Hall construction.

This year's theme is focused on teaching girls how to “break the mold” to believe in themselves when setting out to accomplish goals they didn’t think they could achieve and not having to follow what everyone else does.

Spring 2022

Shine On! returns to an in-person conference for 3rd to 5th-grade girls April 30 to May 1. The free conference, Mighty Girls Move Mountains: Explore Your Character Compass, will be held for the first time at Camp Pok-O-MacCready in Willsboro for only 80 girls due to COVID safety precautions. Online registration opens March 26 at 10 a.m. with a first come first serve policy.

We are requiring all participants to be fully vaccinated. Attendees will be rapid tested at check-in so we will have a COVID-free bubble for our conference. No exceptions will be accepted.

This year’s conference is all about teaching girls how to survive and thrive in every aspect of their lives. A series of interactive activities will be offered such as rock climbing, low ropes and a variety of Shine On!-themed workshops. Workshops will encompass Shine On!’s three key themes: character strengths, communication skills and media/marketing literacy. SUNY Plattsburgh women mentors and Pok-O-MacCready’s certified instructors will lead girls through programming.

Shine On! recently participated in an educational downlink with NASA, where nearly 6,500 students from across New York State were able to video chat in real-time with astronauts aboard the International Space Station!

This incredible opportunity was included with Shine On!'s 2021 STEM-themed virtual conference: Look to the Stars #CharacterCountdown. With the help of Beekmantown Central School, some amazing local sponsors, and almost 30 incredible presenters from across the country, students in K-8 classrooms were able to build an interest in STEM by participating in a variety of age-appropriate workshops for a full day of character building and learning.
